Fiesta Waukesha continues tradition of food, fun, culture

It started as a one-day block party, but now it's grown into a three-day cultural celebration.

Fiesta Waukesha kicks off Friday, June 10 and runs through Sunday, June 12 at Frame Park. For 35 years, the event has served as a way to share Hispanic music, food and traditions with the entire community.

There's something different for kids and adults to enjoy throughout the weekend, including barbecue ribs and chicken cooked by Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly.

The event is organized by La Casa de Esperanza, a local organization that's been around for 50 years.

"But not too many people know everything that we do, but it's a big, big agency," said event organizer Carman De La Paz. "We provide many programs that are needed not only for Hispanics, but for the community at large."

Admission is free and all the proceeds benefit La Casa's charter school.
