ST. LOUIS -- Mike Fiers was masterful in his fist start since hitting Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton in the face with a pitch, but couldn't out-pitch Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals.
Wainwright won his 19th game of the season, and the Cardinals beat the Brewers 2-0. After the Pittsburgh win the Brewers fell 2.5 games behind the Pirates for the final wildcard spot.
Fiers (6-3) didn't allow a hit until Wainwright singled up the middle in the sixth. He allowed just one earned run in seven innings, striking out seven.
