MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is calling on the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) to address fare evasion, calling it a public safety issue. 

In a statement, the FTA said, "each time a rider steps onto a bus without paying, it erodes the public's trust in the system, discourages responsible riders and normalizes disorder." 

They're demanding MCTS provide information on how they plan to address fare evasion, as well as certain financial information. 

They have until December 22nd to respond.
