Federal Prosecutors Decline to Prosecute in Jay Anderson Case

Federal authorities have chosen not to prosecute the Wauwatosa Police Officer in the death of Jay Anderson.

Jay Anderson was fatally shot on June 23, 2016.

Anderson’s family’s attorney released a letter from the Department of Justice.

In the letter, the Department of Justice said it declines to prosecute the officer.

According to the letter, there is no reasonable basis for criminal prosecution.

Department of Justice said the officer believed Anderson had a gun and was reaching for the gun.

According to the letter, the video recording showed Anderson “repeatedly move his arm towards the gun.”

The Anderson family's attorney said the family, "extremely upset and disappointed."
