Fatal House Fire in the Village of Mount Pleasant

RACINE - A fatal house fire in Racine happened late last night. Around 11 pm. Mount Pleasant Police units were dispatched along with the South Shore Fire Department in reference to a House fire that was occurring in the 6600 Block of Durand Avenue in the Village of Mount Pleasant.

Officers upon arrival observed very dark and black smoke emitting from the residence. All of Durand Avenue was shut down by Emergency units while the Structure fire was extinguished by Fire units. During extinguishing of the fire, South Shore Fire Department personnel located a resident deceased inside of the home due to the Fire. Mount Pleasant Police Department personnel already on scene immediately began an Investigation into this incident. The name of the deceased person is going to be withheld until proper notification can be made to their family. 

The small, one family home suffered extensive fire, heat and smoke damage, with a preliminary damage estimate of approximately $70,000 . The house is likely unlivable. Aside from the one civilian fatality, there were no other civilians or firefighters injured during the fire.
