Family of Ice Cream Vendor is trying to get his body back to Mexico

The family of an ice cream vendor who was killed after being struck by a car on Milwaukee's south side is struggling to make his funeral arrangements. Andres Marin's family members are asking for help to raise money to get his body to Mexico where his wife and children live.

Jose Evaristo Perez is also an ice cream vendor, but for a different company. He said he knew Marin for the past five years.

\"We used to work together,” Perez said. “He was a humble and noble man.\"

Marin, 48, was on his bicycle on Mitchell Ave and 16th when two cars crashed striking him at the same time. A memorial stands on the corner where he last stood selling ice cream. He was an ice cream vendor and had just been on the job for a few days at Paleteria Montealban.

\"We risk our lives in the streets and you never know in what moment something like that can happen,” Perez said. “I'm so sad because he is no longer with us and what happened was horrible.\"

His family is working to make funeral arrangements with the Mexican Consulate in Chicago.

\"The only thing I ask is for his family to receive help,” Perez said. “It's the main thing right now so everything moves forward.\"

The family has set up a bank account and has donation boxes in several businesses.
