Family, friends celebrate gunned-down George Webb cook's life

MILWAUKEE -- Amidst tears and hugs, family and friends remembered Reggie Evans Saturday.



\"He was always helpful and, as you can see, he would always stand up and  do the right thing,\" Evans' uncle Winston Ford said.



The 21-year-old Evans was working a night shift at the George Webb restaurant near Oakland and Locust December 20 when he tried to stop a fight.  Police say a man involved left and came back with a gun, shooting Evans in the chest and killing him.



\"The holiday was ruined over something senseless,\" Ford said.  \"We're holding in there, we're hanging  in there.  Two families were ruined.  One for a senseless act, and one for doing a senseless act.\"



Hundreds of people, including Reggie's former classmates from Travis Technical High School  celebrated his life, singing, dancing and, at times, clapping, to lift each other up.



\"It meant the world to me that I could serenade to my god brother, but it was pretty rough for  me as well,\" Jasmine Young said.  \"I loved him, so I would do anything for him.\"



Police arrested the man they say is responsible, 28-year-old Delorean Bryson.  He faces a  first-degree intentional homicide charge, something Reggie's family isn't ready to forgive.



\"[He was] just doing his job, making sure his place where he worked was safe and someone took his life,\" Young said.  \"It's pointless.\"



\"It's not for me to forgive, it's for God to forgive,\" Ford said.



Songs of hope and praise filled the church, giving the family a chance to reflect back on the basketball-playing former prom king.  Reggie's family wants something positive to come from his death.



\"Hopefully violence stops here in Milwaukee, hopefully,\" Ford said.  \"Everybody can learn from this.\"
