MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Milwaukee’s plan to bid the host of the 2020 Democratic National Convention is firing up local political experts.
City leaders announced the bid Wednesday and UWM Professor and former state lawmaker Mordecai Lee believes Milwaukee may be “on the bubble” for consideration when it comes to factors like hotel space for convention visitors.
But there’s something else to consider.
“The metrics become in part about politics, in other words, would it help that party, whether it's the democratic or republican party, to have the convention in that state. Would it help them win that state in the presidential election,” said Lee.
Lee also points out that a convention bid would be expensive. Maybe $50-$80 million for the host committee.
The Democratic National Committee is expected to pick a convention site sometime next winter or spring.
