CALIFORNIA -- "Kai," also known as, "The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker," legal name Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, was an internet sensation about a decade ago after saving a woman from being attacked by hitting the attacker with a hatchet. A few months later, Kai was arrested and convicted for murder in a different state.
He currently has a petition of habeus corpus, a type of appeal, in the works, and hopes to be the next Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, the boxer wrongfully convicted of murder, and released after almost 20 years in prison. But as of now, he's still in a New Jersey prison.
Nearly ten years after the original incident and interview a documentary about Kai's rise and fall is one of the top films on Netflix. The documentary stars our very own CBS 58 anchor Jessob Reisbeck. Jessob spoke about the experience of making the film, and the impact he and Kai had on each other's lives.
