WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- More people are taking the trip to the emergency room for tick bites than usual.

This is according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The agency says trips to the emergency room for tick bites haven't been this high since 20217.

This is for all parts of the country expect the south-central region.

Luckily, there are ways to prevent those nasty tick bites.

You can use EPA-registered insect repellent and use permethrin-treated clothing and gear. Avoid wooded and grassy areas - places where ticks like to live.

The CDC has more prevention tips on their website.

It's also important to check your body and clothes for ticks after being outside.

And if you do find a tick, the CDC says to remove it right away.
