Elm Grove Police: 70-year-old man shoots, kills self in front of officer in police department parking lot
ELM GROVE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 70-year-old man shot and killed himself in front of an officer in the parking lot of the Elm Grove Police Department on Thursday.
It happened around 7:53 a.m. at the department located at 13600 Juneau Boulevard.
According to police, an officer was approached by the man who was reporting that unknown individuals were loitering in the lobby of his property near a bus stop. After assisting the man, he allegedly returned to his vehicle which was parked in the parking lot.
As the officer was returning to his squad, the man approached the officer a second time at his squad car door, appearing distraught.
The officer then asked the man to accompany him to the police department to talk more. The man then allegedly removed a .22 caliber revolver from his jacket pocket and shot himself in the chest.
Officers began lifesaving measures until rescue crews took the man to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No officers discharged any weapons during this incident and no officers were injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
