MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Children can lose up to two months of reading skills and a month of overall learning during summer vacation if their brains aren't academically exercised, according to research cited by Judy Cohen of Lakeside Educational Services.
Cohen joined us on Wednesday, June 10 to talk about what's known as the Summer Slide and how parents can prevent it.
Her tips included checking with teachers for review packets before school ends, signing up for library summer reading programs, establishing a weekly reading routine with kids and forming small activity clubs with friends that incorporate writing, math and creativity.
