Eau Claire woman with 8-year-old passenger allegedly causes crash after pursuit

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An Eau Claire woman has been arrested after allegedly leading authorities on a chase before causing a three-vehicle crash.

The woman allegedly had an 8-year-old passenger in the car.

It happened around 4 p.m. on I-39 SB near Stoughton.

According to a release, the Wisconsin State Patrol had received several complaints regarding a Ford Escape traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed and passing other traffic using the shoulders.

The Ford Escape was spotted by authorities but allegedly fled at speeds of 100 mph.

Two attempts to deploy tire deflation devices were unsuccessful and the pursuit was terminated.

Shortly after, the Wisconsin State Patrol was notified of a multi-vehicle crash at mile marker 151. The crash allegedly involved four vehicles including a semi.

There were only minor injuries reported.

The 41-year-old female driver of the Ford Escape was arrested at the scene. Her 8-year-old passenger was taken to a local hospital as a precaution before being reunited with relatives.

Charges are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
