MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 17-year-old driver is in custody after crashing into the front porch of a home in Milwaukee late Sunday, March 1.
“I heard a boom and so I just came out and just heard the loud noise,” says a neighbor who did not wish to be identified. “I woke up, came to the door, and saw these two guys trying to climb out the window.”
It happened around 11:30 p.m., when police said they saw two cars speeding northbound through the intersection of 16th and Lincoln.
Authorities say one of the cars crashed into the front porch of a home near 16th and Grant and damaged another porch on that block.
“These kids they’re playing, drag racing, and everything else,” says Everett Debore who lives in the neighborhood. “They’re lucky they didn’t kill anyone with this happening.”
Two other cars were also damaged.
The crash even caused a gas leak that neighbors say had them evacuated for a few hours.
“They evacuated everybody,” said the neighbor. “People came out the window, they couldn’t use the door. The good thing was that help got here quick.”
The driver admitted he was racing the second car at the time of the crash.
Two people inside the car that hit the porch were taken to the hospital, but are expected to be OK.
