Driver hurt after being struck by Amtrak train in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One person is hurt after authorities say they tried to drive over railroad tracks and were struck by an Amtrak train in Jefferson County.

It happened just after 1:30 p.m. on July 15, 2021. 

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle was heading southbound on County Highway F when it tried to cross the tracks while the railroad crossing arms were down. 

An eastbound Amtrak train collided with the vehicle. 

The lone occupant was transported to a hospital for care. 

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Ixonia Fire and EMS.
