Driver arrested for OWI after drunk passengers found standing next to car in Waukesha County ditch

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- On Monday, February 12, Waukesha County Sheriff's Department Deputies were dispatched to Genesee for a report of a reckless driver.

When they arrived deputies found two drunk people standing in a ditch near the car. Both subjects admitted they had been drinking and claimed that a third person was driving the car but left the scene.

The alleged driver was found later but said they weren't in the car. A witness to the crash later identified the third person as the driver of the car.

Deputies believed the driver was drunk and administered a field sobriety test which they failed.

The driver was arrested for OWI and cited for driving after suspension, failure to keep his vehicle under control and display of unauthorized vehicle registration plates. Both the driver and passenger were arrested for resisting/obstructing an officer and taken to the Waukesha County Jail.
