Driver Arrested After Vehicle Fatally Struck City Worker in Racine

The driver of the Mustang that struck a city worker in Racine was arrested, according to Racine Police.

City worker in Racine died after sustaining injuries from being struck by a speeding vehicle while collecting recyclables as part of his job on Wednesday.

According to the Mayor of Racine, Mark Gates died this afternoon.

Racine Police Department responded to a traffic accident involving a vehicle and a City of Racine garbage truck on Wednesday.

The accident occurred on Washington Ave. and Oregon St.

One party was injured as a result of the accident.

The injured party was taken via Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital.

The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by our Traffic Unit. No other information is being released at this time.

Racine Police investigators are interested in any additional information that anyone may have about this crime.
