Dozens of police and firefighter jobs may be eliminated in the 2018 city budget

Some Milwaukee aldermen are hoping to avoid the possibility that dozens of Milwaukee police officers and dozens more Milwaukee firefighters could lose their jobs.

Mayor Barrett's office confirms that 84 police officers, 75 firefighters, and other jobs may be eliminated in next year's budget.

Right now, the police budget is the biggest portion of the city budget. But Alderman Bob Donovan took to Facebook today.


The mayor and his staff did not take my warranted and serious concerns to heart, and in fact laughed it off as nothing during the mayoral campaign.

Alderman Tony Zielinski will be hosting a City Hall news conference Monday at 5 p.m. to address Mayor Barrett's references to likely staffing cuts in the 2018 city budget.
