Dousman man charged in machete attack that injured bar patron
DOUSMAN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 53-year-old Dousman man has been formally charged, accused of trying to rob a bar armed with a machete.
Daniel Vasquez faces the following:
- Attempted first-degree intentional homicide, repeater
- Attempted armed robbery, repeater
- Aggravated battery, repeater
Authorities say around 2 a.m. on May 30, a man armed with a machete wearing a Halloween mask entered Dousman House Tavern at 128 N. Main St. demanding money. The suspect began to swing the machete at a patron who was seated at the bar, causing lacerations to his head, arm, and abdomen. The 53-year-old suspect -- identified as Vasquez -- was later arrested after being ejected from his car before it rammed into a tree.
According to a criminal complaint, EMS personnel who treated Vasquez following the crash, looked inside his vehicle and saw a Michael Myers-type mask from the movie "Halloween."
Officials interviewed the bartender, who stated it was close to closing time when the incident happened. She said the only people in the bar were herself and two patrons.
Just before that, the bartender said Vasquez was there and had a Budweiser and two shots -- but didn't have enough money to pay for them.
Vasquez was inside the bar for about 15-20 minutes, the bartender told investigators, before leaving and returning approximately five minutes later wearing the Halloween mask and armed with the machete.
Vasquez was taken into custody and is being held on a $1 million bond.
His next court date is June 26.
