St. Francis Police are investigating an attempted break-in and the shooting of a family dog late Thursday night. According to the Police, around 10 PM Thursday, three unknown suspects came to the door of a home under repair E Denton Avenue near S Pennsylvania Avenue. The suspects asked for a person who was unknown to the people working on the house. According to the report, the suspects then forced open the door to the home and approached the three people inside. The homeowner’s dog ran towards the suspects and one of the suspects fired a single gunshot, striking the dog. The suspects then fled on foot.
St. Francis and Cudahy Police set up a perimeter around the area and called in a K-9 unit and conducted a yard-to-yard search for the suspects. The search was unsuccessful.
According to the police, nothing was taken and none of the people working on the home were injured. The dog was taken to a local animal hospital for treatment. It is expected to survive the shooting.
The St. Francis Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
