Dodge County sheriff: 17-year-old driver dies after spin-out crash on State Highway 73

DODGE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 17-year-old was killed in a crash on State Highway 73 in the Township of Calamus, on Tuesday, Jan. 5. 

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says it happened just north of County Highway D around 9 a.m. 

An investigation revealed a Chevy Impala was traveling southbound on State Highway 73, and while going around a curve the vehicle spun, crossed the centerline and struck a northbound traveling truck. 

The 17-year-old driver and sole occupant of the Chevy was transported to UW Hospital in Madison where they were pronounced dead. 

The driver and sole occupant of the truck was not injured. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and the Dodge County Medical Examiner. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Columbus Fire Department, DCERT, LifeStar and Randolph EMS.

The state highway was closed for approximately 4 hours as the scene was being cleared and the crash was being investigated.
