DNR warns about fake memo concerning deer ornaments

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources sent out an alert and took to social media on Tuesday to notify all Wisconsinites about a fake memo circulating on the internet. The memo claims to be addressed to all Wisconsin residents from the DNR Secretary, asking them to remove any "concrete deer ornaments" from lawns in preparation for this year's deer count because some ornaments "may have been counted over the past two years by mistake."

The DNR says none of this is true. From their media alert: "One way to spot this hoax is in the signature on the fake memo. The name used is misspelled and even if spelled correctly, that person is not the DNR Secretary as suggested."

Anyone that would like more information about this issue is encouraged to contact Jim Dick with the DNR at (608) 267-2773.
