DNR urges boat drivers not to drive under the influence ahead of holiday weekend

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said people should take boat safety very seriously during 4th of July weekend.
The DNR is part of the Operation Dry Water national campaign, where different agencies bring awareness to dangers of operating boats while intoxicated.
Darren Kuhn of the DNR is urging folks to be responsible over the weekend and have a designated sober boat operator.
"Have a designated driver. A designated captain can save the lives of yourself, your passengers and anyone else around you," said Kuhn.
A first offense violation of driving a waterboat while intoxicated can come out to a $500 fine.
Several agencies will be monitoring the waterways in Wisconsin over the weekend.
