Madison, Wis. (CBS 58) -- 2020 DNC officials shared an update on the event's progress during a panel discussion Tuesday. Those participating included Host Committee President Liz Gilbert, Bucks Senior VP Alex Lasry and Congressman Mark Pocan (D - Madison). The group shared their hopes that the convention will have a positive effect not just in Milwaukee, but across the state.
In particular they discussed how cities like Madison could offer daytime events when visitors are looking for things to do before primetime evening events take place at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.
The committee is also aiming to raise $70 million ahead of the four-day event. Despite the hefty goals to prepare for the convention, Lasry said he is confident in the progress the committee has made.
"I think we feel very good about where we are with everything," Lasry told CBS 58. "Joe Solmonese and Liz Gilbert are doing an exceptional job helping run and lead and fundraise and making sure that the convention is all going according to plan. I couldn’t feel any more confident about the team that we have in place to make sure that the convention is going to be one of the most successful conventions."
Officials also said they are working hard to make sure the convention has a lasting impact beyond the four days it is in town.
