RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Racine fire officials were called to the 5th Street boat launch Wednesday morning, Aug. 13, for reports of a person underwater.

According to the fire department, first responders arrived within three minutes and found a bystander in the water searching for an adolescent who was swimming with a friend. Officials say the friends were near the east break wall in the boat launch area when one of the swimmers went underwater and did not resurface.

Divers located the swimmer on the bottom of the lake after about an hour of search efforts involving multiple agencies. They were taken to Racine Ascension All Saints Hospital.

Officials say the victim's medical status is unknown at this time.
