Delays, congestion expected for Packer fans traveling to Green Bay for Vikings game

Packer fans driving up to Green Bay Thursday night for the Vikings game should pack rain gear and their patience.

There is a lot of construction that could slow down your trip.

The Department of Transportation expects heavy congestion and long delays between 2-7 p.m. at the Interstate 41 and WIS 172 interchange.

Right now, I-41 and adjacent roads north from Oneida Street are under construction. The DOT stops work for game days, but narrow lanes and added traffic creates backups.

Packer fans can avoid the mess by exiting at Ashland Avenue.

Another alternative is to exit a few miles earlier at the Main Avenue exit, and head north through De Pere and Ashwaubenon.

There shouldn't be too much disruption traveling north on Interstate 43 to Westbound WIS 172.

But motorists will likely run into delays at Ashland Avenue because of others using it as an alternate route.

The key to a safe, efficient trip is simply planning for extra time to get there.

Real-time traffic information is available on the DOT's website or by dialing 511 on your phone.
