Deer District set to become Cheer District for the holiday season
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's Deer District is set to undergo a festive transformation into the Cheer District starting Friday, Nov. 17, marking the fifth consecutive year of this holiday tradition.
The highlight of the season will be the lighting of the City of Milwaukee Christmas Tree, an event set to take place in the heart of the Deer District.
There will also be over 30 lit trees throughout the plaza surrounding Fiserv Forum, the Milwaukee Makers Market on Saturday, Nov. 18 to experience crafters, artists and more, along with a Letters to Santa mailbox courtesy B93.3.
A series of celebratory events will accompany the tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 17. Performances by local arts organizations, including First Stage Children's Theatre and Skylight Music Theatre, are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., leading up to the main event. The tree lighting itself, featuring Mayor Cavalier Johnson, will occur at 6 p.m., officially signaling the district's transition into a holiday wonderland.
Even as the 2023 holiday season comes to a close, the Cheer District will host fireworks on New Year's Eve.
Free parking will be available at designated locations, including the Highland Structure at 1030 N. 6th St. and the 5th Street Parking Structure at 1215 N. 5th St.
