MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The official start of Hispanic Heritage Month is Monday, Sept. 15. But down in the Deer District they're kicking off the celebration a few days early.
And they did it in a pretty unique way.
The four-hour event broke down by the hour to celebrate a particular region.
It started with Central and South America before moving onto the Caribbean, Mexico and finally Latinos in the United States.
Organizers told CBS 58 it's just one way to keep their culture alive, even if they're away from home.
"Although we are in Wisconsin, we might not be where our parents and everyone and even where we came from," said Senior Regional Manager of Zero Barriers to Business Denisse Pachuca. "It's important to us to remember where we do come from and celebrate all the things that make us who we are."
Hispanic Heritage Month officially kicks off Monday and runs through Oct. 15.
