Death investigation underway after one person hit by train in Village of Lomira

DODGE COUNTY (CBS 58) -- The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a person struck by a train in the Village of Lomira. 

At around 11:50 pm on October 1, 2017, the Sheriff's office received a call from the Canadian National Railroad that a train had struck a person on the tracks. The location of the incident was adjacent to and west of Industrial Drive, north of the grade crossing at CTH HH. 

According to Dodge County Sheriff's Department, the train was heading northbound on the tracks at the time the person was struck, and the area of the collision was not at a road crossing. 

The Wisconsin State Patrol, Lomira Fire Department and First Responders, Theresa EMS and the Dodge County Medical Examiner assisted the Sheriff’s Office. A medical helicopter was put on standby, but later canceled after the person was found deceased at the scene.

Personnel are still working to identify the individual who died, so no families have been notified at this time and no names have been released. 

The train has been stopped as the investigation continues, and several roads are blocked as a result. No major highways were affected. Additional details will be released as its obtained.
