Dane County man arrested for 4th OWI with loaded firearm

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Waunakee man has been arrested for his 4th OWI after citizens called 911 to report that an intoxicated man was acting strangely in the parking lot of a restaurant.

It happened around 7 p.m. Saturday in the town of Westport.

Before deputies arrived, the suspect left his car and entered the Yahara River. Deputies and other bystanders were able to coax him back to land where he was taken into custody.

A fully loaded semi-automatic handgun was discovered in the man's car.

He is now facing charges of 4th OWI, Felon in Possesion of a Firearm, and Resisting.

There was significant damage to his vehicle at the time of his arrest and police believe he may have been involved in several hit-and-run crashes.
