MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Family says he was fixing his car radio when someone came by and shot him. Now, a Milwaukee mother is pleading with the community to help find the person who killed her son.

Travis Johnson's mother says she couldn't have picked a better son to have if she tried.

"The best son anyone could ever have. Very respectful, known by a lot of people," said Glinda Hamlin, Johnson's mother.

On June 14, her only son was gunned down in front of a house near West Leon Terrace and Ridge -- off Fond du Lac Avenue -- in broad daylight.

"Travis was working on some music, fixing his car," said Hamlin.

Milwaukee police say Johnson was in his Dodge Charger with two other people when someone drove up and fired shots into the car. Johnson tried to drive away but died near the scene.

"It happened in a quiet residential neighborhood, in the middle of the day with a high powered rifle. We know there were two dozen casings at the scene so we know that the suspect in this case has zero regard for human life and we need to get this person off the street," said the investigator on the case.

"I know he's not in no gang or anything like that, I've never known him to be in a fight," said Hamlin.

It's been almost a month and detectives are still looking for information. Johnson's mother wants people to know her son was not just a good man but a father and brother, too.

"Again, in my heart, I don't believe that was targeted toward my son. I believe he was in the wrong place at the wrong time," Hamlin said. "I want justice, I want them to find whoever did that to him."

If you know anything about this shooting, you're urged to call Milwaukee Crime Stoppers at 414-224-8477. You can also use the P3 Tips App. If your tip leads to an arrest for this case, there's a $1,000 cash reward.

Remember when you contact Crime Stoppers, no one will ever find out.
