Council approves resolution calling for restrictions on firework sales

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Aldermen approved a resolution designed to make it tougher for people to buy illegal home fireworks during Tuesday's Council meeting.

State government would have to help.

Under the resolution, the city would ask Madison to change state law so that fireworks sellers would have to check to make sure their customers don't live in places where fireworks are illegal.

Currently, fireworks are routinely sold in Wisconsin municipalities outside of Milwaukee and other communities where fireworks are illegal, and there is no requirement for the seller to check where the buyer resides.
