RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Cory Mason has declared victory in the Racine Mayoral Special Election that was held on Tuesday.
Mason posted on Facebook "The next Mayor of the city of Racine" along with a photo of himself.
The race was between Cory Mason and Sandy Weidner.
The candidates have defined themselves this way: Mason has stressed the need for Racine to prepare to take advantage of Foxconn and get people prepared with a goal of restoring the middle class.
Weidner has said the culture of City Hall needs to change and that city officials need to be more inclusive in their decision making.
The low voter turnout in this election had many wondering if tonight's decision would come down to a handful of votes.
The winner will now serve the remainder of former Mayor Dickert's term. Dickert resigned back in July to take a position with the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Cities Initiative.
