Cool start to September ending as average temps return

NOW: Cool start to September ending as average temps return

The first week of September has been cool. That continued Monday morning with lows dropping into the 30s in some locations and most of the area in the 40s.

Monday will likely be our last truly chilly start for a while with morning lows returning to closer to average levels in the low 50s inland and upper 50s lakeside the rest of the week. Even some morning sin the 60s when we head into the weekend as clouds and rain chances return.

High temperatures will also start to warm as we get back to 70 degrees today. Middle to upper 70s are expected for highs rest of the week when temps stay steady right around the average high of 76.

The temperature trend going into the third week of September shows even warmer air returning with a 60% chance for above average temps in Wisconsin. With average highs in the mid 70s by the middle of the month we can at least expect mid to upper 70s with even a shot at some 80s.

So far in 2025 we've had more cool months than warm. Only three months have been above average on temps: March, June and July. The year started off cool in January and February. May was very cool compared to average and September is off to a very cool start. So far the entire year is over 21 degrees below average.

The average September temperature through the first week of the month is 59.8 degrees which is the 6th coolest start to the month on record.
