Cooking Safety Tips

The turkey is the center piece of most Thanksgiving meals.

But make sure you're not putting you, or your family, in any danger when you make it.

Firefighters responded to 14,000 cooking fires last Thanksgiving.

Their advice, don't leave cooking food unattended.

And remember that hot oil and water do not mix.

If a fire does break out, don't douse it with water or flour, get the extinguisher.

And if you like to deep fry your turkey, make sure it's away from your house and not on a porch or in a garage.

Make sure the turkey is completely defrosted and patted dry, and never overfill the oil.
