MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation's I-43 URT Bridge Project started Saturday, Oct. 2, and is expected to take through the end of 2021 to complete.
According to the Department of Transportation website page on the I-43 URT Bridge Project, the project "will reconstruct and rehabilitate bridges and roadway sections along I-43 from Capitol Drive to just north of Hampton Avenue in Milwaukee County. The purpose of the project is to address poor bridge and pavement conditions and related geometric, safety, and traffic needs along I-43 over the abandoned Union Refrigerator Transit Company (URT) railyard."
DOT reports say the construction will stretch between Capitol Drive and Hampton Avenue
Additional DOT information says the following lanes will have long-term closures through the end of 20201:
- I-43 NB at Capitol Dr from Oct 2 through late 2021 for roadway reconstruction.
- Fiebrantz Ave entrance ramp to I-43 NB from 10:30pm Fri, Oct 1st through late 2021 for roadway reconstruction.
I-43 Northbound is expected to fully close overnight at Capitol Drive and Green Bay Ave Saturday, Oct 2, for storm sewer crossing and a traffic switch.
