Complaint: Man fired less than an hour before hitting coworker in Mukwonago hit-and-run
Waukesha County Sheriff\'s Department WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A man accused of attempted homicide in Mukwonago made his initial appearance in court Wednesday, Feb. 11.
Thirty-eight-year-old Lenard Hale is charged with attempted first degree homicide and hit and run causing great bodily harm. Those charges stem from an incident at the Greenridge Center in Mukwonago Monday, Feb. 9.
According to the criminal complaint, police responded to the scene outside the Dollar General store on Fox Street shortly before 5 p.m. and found a man face down in the parking lot. He was taken to the hospital with a serious brain injury, according to medical staff.
Police found the victim is an employee of Aptar, a business just across the street from Dollar General, and had walked to the store on break to purchase some items. Prosecutors say surveillance footage from the victim's workplace shows a vehicle slowly "stalking" the victim through the parking lot. When the victim sees the vehicle, the complaint says he begins to walk toward it but reconsiders and steps away. Then, the vehicle "rapidly accelerates" and swerves at the victim, hitting him and throwing him over the hood and roof of the vehicle.
The complaint says Hale was also an employee of Aptar and had been fired around 4 p.m., less than an hour before the incident.
Police soon found him hiding behind a door at his grandmother's house, where they made the arrest.
Court records show Hale's bond was set at $750,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 20.
