MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A couple hundred people were at Kops Park having fun with their first responders at National Night Out Thursday night.
Police say it helps people see them in a different light, and lets community members know the resources available in their community.
Parents say they like seeing their kids learn from first responders. The kids did get to have fun, but they also got to learn things like how to escape a fire from the Milwaukee Fire Department.
There were also booths set up by community leaders from Milwaukee Public Schools to the Salvation Army, to let people know what's available in their neighborhood.
Police say they like that National Night Out gives people hope, but their favorite part is having positive interactions with the community.
Thursday night was the National Night Out for District 7, and the first one in the city of Milwaukee. The other districts will have their nights out in the coming weeks.
