Common Council passes resolution supporting tenants' right to counsel in eviction proceedings

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- With the eviction moratorium gone, many are now facing the immediate possibility of eviction.

On Wednesday, Sept. 1, the Milwaukee Common Council unanimously passed a resolution supporting a tenant's right to counsel for eviction proceedings.

Much like how the defendant in a criminal case is provided a lawyer for free if they can't afford one, tenants would be provided with a lawyer for free in small claims court relating to evictions.

However, this is just a resolution and does not actually mandate free representation in Milwaukee.
