Seniors at Carmen Schools celebrated with ’Signing Day’ event
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Local college students lent a hand today to help out older adults in our community.
For their annual Make A Difference Day, students and staff volunteers from the University of Milwaukee and Marquette University helped prepare older adults home for the spring.
The tasks included raking leaves, trimming bushes and clearing their patios.
Student and volunteers say they are happy to give back to the community and connect with the older generation.
"Not only are our students helping provide these services for volunteering, helping with yard work tasks, but they're also giving that social interaction that's lacking right now" said UWM Student Services Specialist Elise Jaffee.
"The seniors look forward to this day every year" Freda Wright Program Manager at the Harambee Neighborhood Eras Senior Network said. "And especially now during the pandemic they're able to actually look through out the window to see the volunteers help out and to see that they're still cared for during this pandemic."
300 UWM students went through 70 homes throughout Milwaukee while volunteers from Marquette assisted older adults at 10 additional homes.
