MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Several customers arrived at Colectivo Coffee on Prospect Avenue Monday morning, Jan. 18, to find a sign on the door saying they are closed temporarily.
Sunday, Jan. 17, was the last day the store was open. Customers said employees were given very short notice about the closure.
CBS 58 reached out to Colectivo, and they released a statement that read in part, "We are saddened for our co-workers and the neighborhood this café serves, but this café is simply not viable in the ongoing COVID environment."
Some customers say they are not surprised about the closure, but others say they were shocked.
"We went yesterday [Sunday] and it was popping... so we went and got a bunch of stuff and we tipped a bunch because it was very short notice we heard for the staff so that’s really sad," said Rebekah Lapwood, customer.
"It's not surprising with everything going on and basically forcing them to shutter their doors for a good portion of the year so there’s a lot of lost revenue," said David Hassi, customer.
Company officials say an opening date is yet to be determined.
