The Milwaukee woman charged in the death of a 7-week-old girl at her home daycare will go to trial.
Lawyers for Claudette Mitchell pushed to dismiss the case based on lack of evidence but prosecutors insisted she was the only one who could have hurt little Savaiya Reid so severely.
"This is a child who was dropped off on the morning of August 22nd, 2017 in completely fine care, having no injuries, was able to take two feedings without demonstrating any injuries and then collapses at 3 pm with these significant, multiple injuries, skull fractures that were too numerous to count."
The judge found probable cause at today's preliminary hearing. Mitchell has pleaded not guilty. In court records, she claimed she put the baby down to sleep and later found her with the injuries.
Mitchell returns to court next Thursday.
