MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- New information has been released about the fire that gutted Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Milwaukee.
That fire was first spotted on the roof of the church at 9th and Highland where a roofing crew was working at the time.
No official cause has been released yet but hot tools were left on the roof at the time of the fire.
The City Department of Neighborhood Services confirms that a permit was needed for that roofing work but city records show no permit on file.
Mayor Tom Barrett was asked about the permits on Monday and said, "We're checking to make sure everything was done correctly."
