City & project leaders discuss Milwaukee Streetcar progress, possible route change

City and project leaders met Friday morning to discuss progress of the Milwaukee Streetcar project.  The committee discussed shifting the proposed route.  

\"We're contemplating possibly changing the route from Wells to Kilbourn,\" Department of Public Works Commissioner Ghassan Korban said. \"The main reason for that is there are a lot more utilities, private and city utilities in Wells than Kilbourn.

He said the city is working with East Town association about this to make sure the streetcar doesn't disrupt festivals in that area like Bastille Days.

Korban said the project is on-schedule and on-budget as of now.  Project leaders are working to find cars.  They sent out request for proposals in April.  City leaders plan to hold these meetings on a monthly basis.
