Toddler escapes from rental home, nearly drowns in Middle Genesee Lake

An 18-month-old boy is recovering following a near drowning incident in the Town of Summit in Waukesha County on Memorial Day.  

Crews were dispatched to a possible drowning incident at a rental home on Middle Genesee Lake.

The initial investigation revealed that an 18-month-old boy had been napping in a bedroom. The boy's mother entered the room to wake him but was unable to find him. As she checked the home and called for him, she noticed the door leading to the lake was ajar. Upon exiting the door, she saw him floating in the lake about 8 feet from shore.

The first responders performed life-saving measures and were able to regain a pulse.

The child was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.  The condition of the child is not known at this time.
