Chef Joya returns to Milwaukee for annual entrepreneurship summit

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- "I'm grateful, I'm blessed, it's definitely surreal."

A Milwaukee native returns home for the annual MKE Business Now Entrepreneurship Summit.

Adjoa Courtney is a chef and cookbook author known for transforming traditional recipes into vegan-friendly dishes.

Since plant-based diets have become more popular, Chef Joya says her business has boomed and adapted.

"I am 1000% passionate about having people have flavorful food, vegan food doesn’t have to be bland, it doesn't have to be what they love to call salad and grass," said Chef Joya.

"We thought it'd be great to bring in someone from Milwaukee who has had much success using their talents and their gifts to create and grow their own business," said Ald. Milele A. Coggs.

Chef Joya says she wants to help others follow their passions.

You can see her and other hometown business owners tomorrow at the entrepreneurship summit at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School.
