Charcoal grill causes garage fire in Fond du Lac

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) – A garage is heavily damaged after fire crews in Fond du Lac say a grill was put away too soon.

Firefighters say they responded to the 200 block of Chestnut Street for a detached garage that was on fire. Crews were able to put out the fire, but say the building had extensive damage.

According to investigators, the fire was accidental and caused by a charcoal grill that was put back in the garage before it had completely cooled. The grill was placed next to some combustible materials which caught fire.

No one was hurt, although Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue is reminding the public that even though a grill or ashes may seem cool, we should wait at least 72 hours before discarding ashes or storing a grill back in the garage.
