Board chair of Wisconsin's Department of Veterans Affairs facing child pornography charges

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Curtis Schmitt, the board chair of Wisconsin's Department of Veterans Affairs, is facing child pornography charges.

Schmitt is represents district one, and according to the Department of Veterans Affairs' website he is the board chair.

Court documents show 38-year-old Curtis Schmitt, of Franklin, faces three counts of possession of child pornography.

According to a criminal complaint, when questioned, Schmitt told investigators that he had a porn addiction and that he talks to a lot of women on Snapchat. He said all the women stated that they are adults, but that he gets a lot of photos sent to him via Snapchat and sometimes they send him pictures of children.

The complaint says he admitted to sometimes downloading the porn, but claimed the main purpose he downloaded it was to send it back to Snapchat to report it.

He said he'd been viewing porn on Snapchat for years and said he'd come across child pornography "a lot" and "all the time."

When asked how old he believed the children to be in some of the photos, Schmitt acknowledged that some looked as young as four and eight years old.
