CBS 58's One Good Thing: Former sport stars help with food insecurity
OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Tonight's one good thing is an effort to get rid of that food security.
A partnership between Roundy's and former MLB all-star Curtis Granderson means a big boost for feeding America and local pantries.
Roundy's, which runs Pick n' Save and Metro Market, is donating $50,000 in food to local food pantries.
Former Packer LeRoy Butler helped pack some of that food in Oak Creek today, Nov. 11.
The Curtis Granderson Foundation is also launching the 'Grand Giving' campaign, where you can by five-dollar food bags to donate or when you check out you can donate cash.
"The power at these food banks with that dollar because they can purchase in bulk, instead of getting that one can, they can get an entire meal or multiple meals, some places one dollar gets you up to four meals," said Granderson.
LeRoy Butler told us he's happy to help as someone who grew up with food insecurity.
"I choose to help people who I'll never meet because they were people like me," said Butler. "If everybody thought like that, the world would be amazing, but I don't wait for the world I do it myself."
