Car strikes 16-year-old horseback rider in Calumet County, victim in critical condition

CALUMET COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) --- Calumet County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to CTH HH near Meyer Road after a car struck a horse and the 16-year-old rider on Friday, April 2.

It happened around 1:30 p.m.

Officials say the 16-year-old rider was flighted by ThedaStar to the hospital and is in critical condition.

According to deputies, the horse and rider were traveling eastbound when it abruptly went into the roadway. Officials say the horse and rider were then struck by an oncoming westbound traveling car.

The vehicle occupants and the horse were not injured, according to police.

Sheriff’s deputies were additionally assisted by Kiel Police Department, Kiel, New Holstein, & St. Anna Fire Departments, and Kiel Ambulance.
